Tee time is almost here—on October 5-7th, a bevy of legends of sports and entertainment will descend on Mexico’s most spectacular courses: the Norman Signature Course and the Lakes Golf Course, all at Vidanta Nuevo Vallarta. Now in its second year, the Vidanta Celebrity Invitational gives guests a once-in-a-lifetime chance to face off against randomly selected celebrity partners, with over $50,000 in cash and prizes at stake. It’s a whirlwind of friendly competition and luxurious celebration, all against the backdrop of the majestic Sierra Madre mountains and beautiful Banderas Bay, and we’ve got the inside track on precisely which heavy-hitters will be in play.
The full lineup is studded with stars, from Hall-of-Famers, to All Stars, to Olympic medalists (oh my!). Here’s a preview:
Larry Walker
Multi-talented baseball legend, eh? Canadian right fielder Larry Walker demonstrated prodigious talent across his tenures with the Montreal Expos, Colorado Rockies, and St. Louis Cardinals, earning induction into Canada’s Sports Hall of Fame in 2007. Along with Barry Bonds and Willie Mays, Walker’s one of only three players ever to rank within the top 100 for batting runs, baserunning runs, and defensive runs saved. Since retiring from pro ball, he’s become a rather fervent recreational bowler, even allegedly bowling a 300. What does this mean for his golf game? Well, we won’t be surprised if Walker bowls over the competition.
Nancy Kerrigan
Few could forget figure skater Nancy Kerrigan’s meteoric rise to fame, culminating in her remarkable recovery to win Silver at the 1994 Winter Olympics. Since retiring from amateur competition, Kerrigan has lent her incredible talent to a number of prominent ice shows, including Broadway on Ice, Champions on Ice, and an ice adaptation of the musical Footloose. She’s a national spokeswoman for Fight for Sight, a nonprofit devoted to funding medical research in vision and ophthalmology. Most recently, Kerrigan once graced our screens as a contestant on season 24 of Dancing with the Stars.
